Rosetta lander, which last week landed successfully on a comet, ran out of battery power on Friday. The European Space Agency says that contact with the spacecraft was lost at 3:36pm PT on November 14. It now in "idle" mode, and further contact won't be possible unless enough sunlight falls on its solar panels to wake it up again. A highly contagious strain bird flu was detected at a poultry farm in the village of Hekendorp, south of Amsterdam on Saturday.The Dutch authorities are in the process of slaughtering all 150,000 birds at the farm. The H5N8 stain has never been detected in humans. The same strain of bird flu was reported at a farm in Heinrichswalde, in Germany’s northeastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on November 4, Reuters reported. More than 30,000 turkeys were slaughtered at the German farm, according to DW. A past outbreak of H5N8 led to the slaughtering of millions of farm birds in South Korea, China and Japan, Reuters reported. In response, the Netherlands imposed a 72-hour ban on transportation of poultry products across the country, Reuters reported. "President Barack Obama will announce a $3 billion U.S. contribution to an international fund to help poor countries cope with the effects of climate change, an administration official said on Friday. The large size of the contribution took climate policy watchers by surprise and doubles what other countries had previously pledged ahead of a Nov. 20 deadline.
